Kick-off Meeting |
|
The official kick-off of the GreenPP – Establishing Green Prison Pathways Through Staff Training, Reinsertion Green Skill Building & Community GreenLinks project took place on January 20–21 in Lisbon, Portugal. Partners engaged in an in-depth exchange on the preliminary national mapping results of sustainability and green practices in European prisons. The analysis highlighted differences in infrastructure, levels of modernisation, and policy integration.
On the second day of the meeting, partners visited Torres Novas Prison, where a successful green initiative from Upfarming – “Vertical Horticulture, Horizontal Solidarity” (HVSH) – has been implemented. Through the installation of aeroponic vertical gardens, the initiative creates regenerative spaces that support well-being, practical skills development, and the construction of life projects aligned with community needs, and acting as an inspiring example for the GreenPP project. These discussions will feed into a comprehensive European mapping of the existing landscape of sustainable green practices within prison systems across partner countries. This consolidated evidence base will inform and guide the upcoming activities, ensuring that the initiative’s next steps are grounded in real data, comparative experiences and best practices identified across partners. |
